Trump Warns of Response After Helicopter Incident Near Strait of Hormuz
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had been briefed by the US military about the incident. “I have just been informed by our great military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote.
He added that the two pilots involved were safely rescued and were not injured, but stressed that “the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack.”
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that two crew members were recovered following the crash on Monday, while noting that the investigation into the cause is still ongoing.
Separately, two US officials told a media outlet that the helicopter went down off the coast of Oman after being struck by an Iranian drone. A source cited by the media outlet said an Iranian Shahed drone hit the aircraft, although officials said it is still not clear whether the strike was deliberate or accidental.
